Crafts using recycled materials: TP Butterfly and Wine Bottle Bunnyrials

Many recycling facilities have already closed owing to safety issues. Why does this matter? You have a plenty of paper towels and perhaps even wine bottles. These two items are ideal for crafting and upcycling!

TP Roll Butterfly

Supplies:

  • empty rolls of toilet paper or paper towels, cut in half or even quarters if using paper towels.
  • Construction paper or card stock (children can even decorate white paper)
  • Hot glue or Elmer’s
  • Pipe cleaners can also be used in place of foil as antennae.
  • To create the face, use a black marker.
  • Although they’re a nice addition, Google eyes aren’t required.
  • vintage jewellery, decorative buttons, etc.

Directions:

1. Let the roll dry after painting.
2. Draw the outline of one wing on the folded-in side of your wing paper.
3. The opposite side of the paper has an identical wing when you open it. (Exactly like when we were kids and made hearts.)
4. Draw the smile and adhere the google eyes. To create antennae, bend a pipe cleaner into a “V” shape, and then glue it to the inside of the roll’s top. Attach the roll to the centre of the wings using glue.
5. Dress up the wings however you like.

Wine Bottle Bunny

  • for the ears, use scrap cloth
  • glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Toilet paper roll and optional cap made of felt
