Earth Day Recycling Sensory Bin for Preschool

Earth Day Recycling Sensory Bin for Preschool.

In search of a recycling or Earth Day-related sensory bin idea? Your young students will understand the notion of separating recyclables from waste thanks to this sensory bin.

Teaching your children about recycling and how it can benefit everyone is never too early.

Earth Day Sensory Bin

Setting up sensory bins doesn’t have to be difficult, expensive, or take a lot of effort. Simply a few objects are needed to set up this sensory bin.
Your children will enjoy sifting through the shreds of paper to retrieve the cards and place them in the proper containers.
Gather your materials before beginning this sensory play activity.

  • Paper that has been shredded
  • Printable Gator Grabbers for Sorting Trash and Recycling
  • Mini Waste and Recycling Container
  • Cardstock
  • Laminating film and laminator
  • Scissors
For the sensory bin shown here, I used dollar store shredded paper, but you can use whatever filler works best for you and your pupils.

Recycling Sensory Bin

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of sensory bins, you can read more about them and how they operate right here.
You’re only limited by your creativity when it comes to making sensory bins for your classroom! While some sensory bins can be used to practise skills, others are fully open-ended.

Sensory Bin Sorting Activity

Printing, laminating, and cutting out your sorting cards first will ensure their durability.
Show the cards to your students after identifying the item on each one, then ask them to recite the names of the images out loud.
After that, show your children where the trash and recycling bins are. Give each kid a picture card, and then invite them one at a time to put their cards in the proper bin.
It’s time to introduce the Gator Grabbers to your students. Show your kids how to pick up the cards and put them in the bins by using the grabbers. This is not only excellent sorting practise, but it’s also perfect for improving their fine motor skills!
