Easy Christmas Crafts Using Upcycled Materials

These simple Christmas craft ideas were repurposed from trash or discarded furnishings! Family-friendly Christmas craft projects that everyone can love.

Should You Make Your Own or Buy New?

While DIY and craft projects can be enjoyable, not everything you do yourself is worth the money.

Although creating something from scratch is immensely fulfilling, upcycling makes it even better.

Literally, trash may be transformed into a lovely home addition that fits your individual style.

Therefore, start searching your home for items you want to discard and try some of these crafts.

Upcycled Crafts – Christmas Trees

It was so much fun to make this recycled Christmas craft, which only cost a few bucks.
Start by tracing a single triangle onto a cardboard box to create these trees.
I drew the triangle freehand, cut it out, then used it as a template for the other tree sides.

Four triangles are hot bonded together along each side to form the tree.

When applying hot glue to secure the cardboard in place, be sure to press each side of the triangle into the glue.

The yarn can now be adhered to the cardboard Christmas tree that you have created.

Starting at the top of the tree and working my way down made it easy for me to wrap yarn around the entire tree.

Upcycled Coffee Creamer Centerpieces

After using coffee creamer bottles to chalk paint, these centrepieces turned out better than I had anticipated.
These centrepieces only require flowers, twine, chalk paint, and hot glue.

Christmas Craft Ideas Using Mason Jars

This is a really simple Christmas craft idea if you happen to have some spare jars lying around.
These Mason jars were among a collection of haphazard shower decorations I discovered in my basement.
I just switch out the floral with the season because I spray painted the jars a neutral colour, so I can have them on display all year.

Scrap Wood Snowman

Several times, I considered dumping leftover wood in the trash to clean out my garage, but I knew there would be upcycling uses for it.
I’m glad I didn’t throw it out since I made a cute snowman out of the leftover wood.

Easy Christmas Craft – DIY Garland

Making this garland simply took a few minutes and cost about $10 or less.
These bells were created by recycling broken Christmas ornaments, plus I already had thread on hand from a previous undertaking.
So, the only thing I bought for this project was a few match pom-poms.
Pom poms, felt balls, or bells, a needle, and ribbon or string are required to make your garland.
I selected a string that would be strong enough to support the weight of the bells and pom poms on the garland.
You can begin creating our garland after choosing your colours and supplies.
Making sure you have enough extra string on the ends to hang the garland, first thread your string through a needle.
The centre of the felt ball or pom pom should then be delicately threaded through the needle with the string.

When you are satisfied with the pattern and length, keep doing this and snip the string’s end, leaving extra slack.

You may finish off your garland by tying a little knot or lop with the remaining slack.

Next, distribute the felt balls or pom-poms uniformly down the string.

Flocked Christmas Wreath

Simple to make flocked Christmas trees or wreaths. This is an easy method to quickly update your holiday decor with spray paint if you want to give it a little facelift!

Upcycled Crafts – Christmas Candle Holder

Even though this candle holder was gold, it didn’t go with any of my other decor.
After applying coats of chalk paint and stone paint, the colours are precisely matched, and the stone paint almost makes the candle holder appear to be covered in snow.
