April 22nd is Earth Day, a day to honour the planet and all that it provides for us. We take advantage of Earth Day to teach our kids how we can lessen our environmental impact and contribute to a better future by protecting the environment. These kid-friendly Earth Day activities are a fantastic way to teach our kids about environmental responsibility and have fun while simultaneously showing them how they can make a positive impact on the earth all year long.
Trash Scavenger Hunt

Take the kids for a walk or nature walk after gathering some bags. Make your kids compete to see who can collect the most rubbish in their bags earliest. Look out for plastic bags, bottles, and shreds of paper.
If you are concerned that your children may pick up trash with small hands, the dollar shop frequently has small grabber tools. This Amazon grabber tool is another something I enjoy.
This is a creative approach to teach children about the harm that our waste causes to the environment, the need of not littering, and the need to leave a place cleaner than when you found it.
If you are unable to visit a hiking route, you can still engage in this exercise indoors, even in your own neighbourhood.
Assign a fun prize to the first person to fill their bag!
Can You Recycle That?

Learn what can be recycled and what cannot be on Earth Day. If your city has a recycling programme, this is a great chance to enlist your children’s assistance with some light spring cleaning.
If you would like to help students remember what can and cannot be recycled, you might want to create a chart of recyclable items similar to this one.
Encourage your children to fill the recycling container by having them gather recyclables from around the house. Look for food wrappers, cereal boxes, and even water bottles made of plastic.
After it’s filled, gather the whole family for a picnic in the neighbourhood park as a reward. Take a long walk or go for a family bike ride to wind down.
When it comes time to clean up the house at the end of each week, this can be a fantastic game to see how quickly your family members can fill the recycling can. Your children are more likely to assist without complaining if you make household duties enjoyable for them, and they will also benefit the planet Earth!
Make Compost Stew

If you haven’t built your own compost bin yet, Earth Day is a great time to start one!
Grab the book Compost Stew: An A to Z Recipe for the Earth. After reading it, have everyone help fill up a container and start your very first compost bin by making your very own Compost Stew.
This is not just a fantastic Earth Day exercise that sparks young children’s imaginations, but it’s also a fantastic method to help your child practise reading comprehension.
Your children will know for years to come what they can throw in the compost to help lower your carbon footprint and produce delicious food for your garden.
Make a Tic Tac Toe Game on Rocks

One of my favourite Earth Day projects is painting rocks with nontoxic paint. It’s a fantastic activity for youngsters to do! An eco-friendly game that you can put at the park for people to play with others is to create a well-known game like tic tac toe on rocks.
This is a terrific method to bless others in your community because everyone knows how to play the game, so when they find the set, they will know exactly what to do.
By leaving a surprise that doesn’t litter or leave behind trash in the event that your surprise is missed, art projects like this one are a terrific way to lift someone else’s spirits.
You can even join a rock group in many cities and start looking for other people’s rocks.
Make and Toss Seed Bombs

Look for wildflower seeds that are local to your area. This is an excellent chance to talk to your child about invasive species and the need for caution while sowing seeds in order to maintain the balance of our local ecology.
Younger children may also like using a magnifying glass to examine the seeds more attentively. Before creating your seed bombs, you may engage in some sensory play by placing the seeds in small bins and discussing the similarities and differences of the seeds.
To make your seed bombs, repurpose tissue paper that you’ve saved from previous gifts or use brown shipping paper from recent parcels. This demonstrates to your children that there are many inventive ways to reuse objects, including for enjoyable Earth Day projects!
Start Seeds for Your Garden

Get the kids together and begin searching for items that can be repurposed into seed starting pots so you can start your food garden before the last frost threatens. This is the ideal Earth Day project to push your kids to design original and imaginative seed starter pots.
Using a range of tools to experiment with different seed starting techniques would be fantastic. It’s similar to mixing entertaining Earth Day activities with scientific experiments!
